Recently I was reading in Isaiah where God was speaking to a lost group of people.  Isaiah 65:1 reads, “I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me.”  This sparked something in me as I wondered if God would say the same thing to the multitudes of people living in darkness in Kibera.  At first glance, it may seem hard to find God here.  As I walk down our road, I look out across Kibera and see a wasteland where disease and severe poverty are around every corner.  I hear a desperate cry for help as the Call to Prayer resounds from a mosque.  My heart aches as I see and hear people praying to another god.  This is a dry, desolate, famine stricken land with too many living in darkness.  But regardless of outer appearance, our Great God is very much alive and working in this place called Kibera, our home.  Everyday I have the amazing opportunity to see God “revealing himself to those who don’t ask for him.” God reveals himself to them through many different ways.  I believe one of these ways is through us, living and working humbly among our neighbors.  Through all we do, we strive to show God’s love to those we encounter.  And the good news is that here in Kibera, God is found by those who do not seek him. We are experiencing great growth here, even though it seems slow at times.  People are hungry and they’re coming to us asking the hard questions; they’re wrestling with their spirit as God calls out to them.  Just like in Isaiah 65, God is found here and we are thrilled to be found here as well.  It is encouraging and exciting to see the Word of God breathing and alive in such a real way in Kibera.
