People are funny.
As I sit here at this little coffeehouse today, I’ve decided that coffee
shops are great places to watch people.
I mean really, have you ever slowed down long enough to look up and just
watch people? I am a
people-watcher…guilty. I always
wonder about people. I wonder what he does for a living…I wonder what exam she’s
cramming for with her textbooks scattered out…I wonder if the book he’s
reading is any good.
I didn’t come here today with the purpose of
people-watching…after all that’s a little stalker-esque. I came here to catch up on some emails
as sometimes I just need a change of scenery from the office. After a few busy weeks of training camp and leader debrief
my inbox is taunting me and I must make an attempt to catch up. But for a brief moment this morning I look up from
my computer long enough to notice people.
And I wonder…
I wonder why she chose that ringtone…I wonder what’s this old man’s story
and what he’s thinking about as he stares off into space while eating his
banana nut bread…I wonder how long she’s worked here and if she enjoys her job.
Interesting – this guy sitting next to me just recognized these 2
girls across the room. Apparently
he remembers them from somewhere in Chicago. Small world. I
wonder if they really remember him or if they’re just being polite by smiling
and nodding.
I wonder what her tattoo means…I wonder who in this place are locals and who are foreigners
like me.
When one is people-watching it’s recommended that you at
least have a book or something in your hands so you don’t seem like such a
creeper. Just thought I’d throw
that in there for any of you people-watcher wannabe’s. ๐
But really, do you ever pause your day to wonder? I used to think I had to wonder about
important things but I disagree with that thought now. It’s refreshing to wonder. As I sit here my mind is full of all
these “I wonders.” They are
mindless and meaningless and I don’t have answers or conclusions to any of this
randomness in my head. But somehow
it’s restful to pause everything and just look around. I’m as guilty as anyone of rushing
around consumed by the busyness of life.
But today for a few moments I looked up.
What are you wondering about today?
I’d love to know…leave a comment and grab a latte. ๐
Hello Kayla,
Another beautiful blog, and one I can relate too…I too, like to people watch, and often wonder what is going on in their lives. Just want you to know that even though I don’t write you that often…I often wonder/think about you, and want you to know how blessed I am to have you in my life. Love you dearly!

Ha, i like this blog! I was sitting in the lounge of the car wash place today and people watched for a bit. But then a lady started talking to me about all the different types of car washes, if I liked the place, if they did a good job. She talked so much all I had time to wonder about much else! But generally, i enjoy people watching… especially at airports. Where are they going? Who will they meet? Are they saying hello or goodbye? Airports are my favorite place to people watch.
I just experienced this at the mall yesterday!
It was definitely interesting! Great blog Kayla! LOVE YOU GIRL!
Is that a picture of your actual beverage?! It looks magnificent.
I wonder how God is going to use me to reach out the the underclassmen on my tennis team considering I am the only upperclassman.
I too enjoy people watching. My grandparents taught me in Abilene, outside of Baskin Robbins on North (Or maybe South) 1st street. We would get our ice cream, sit in the car and people watch.
I also like to read others comments in all sorts of blogs. Makes me wonder and gives a little window in to what is going on in their world. Damon says I’m nosy, but you and I know that I am just wonder-filled. *sigh* What’s a girl to do?
Also, it makes me smile that Jeff asked if this was a picture of your actual beverage, because, alas, I too was wondering this. ๐
Mmmmm yes i love that you are in a writing phase. its delightful!!!
I love to people watch & make up stories about what I think their stories are. Great blog.
I wonder when I will get to see this sweet friend of mine named Kayla. I wonder why her writings evoke my spirit to feel alive so much. And I wonder how God put so much wisdom into such a young vessel.
love ya
