Things here in Kenya are progressing along well.
Our team arrived yesterday and the air is filled with excitement and statements like “I can’t believe I’m in KENYA!”
It is fun having this new energy here and seeing the bright eyed passion of these students.
The next 2 weeks will be filled with an orientation/training time before we jump into our regular schedule.
It’s a valuable time to learn about the culture and be sensitive to what the Lord is doing here.
As I was talking to my friend Ramla the other day, she asked me if I was going to plant my “shamba” (garden) again this year.
I assured her I would be doing that and proceeded to ask her the best time to plant.
She informed me that as soon as it rained, the soil would be prepared to cultivate and start planting.
It has been a dry season here, as there has been no rain since April.
The ground is hard and the air is dusty.
Rain must come before the soil can even be used.
Well, it has been raining nonstop for the past 2 days.
We thank God for the unexpected rain, as the next rains weren’t expected until November.
As I reflected on all of this, my prayer this week is that the Lord will prepare this soil for what he is going to plant, grow, and harvest in and through us this year.
I firmly believe that we are on the edge of something bigger than any of us can wrap our minds around.
The new harvest is going to be plentiful!
It is obvious that God has a sense of humor, as he uses my Muslim friend and a simple thing as rain to reveal to me what He is doing here.
I’m looking forward to this season and what the Lord has in store for all of us.
