This was written by Beverly Gibson, one of the incredible ladies in my life that God has used over the years to speak life and truth into me.  Enjoy!

Still waters … have you ever sat beside a pool of water that was so still you could see a perfect reflection of the sky, the trees, the beauty all around that pool? EnGedi, Israel has pools like that. Hot and dry with steep canyon walls and treacherous paths you are eventually led to clear cool waters. An oasis hidden in desert mountains that look barren of life. I think of times in our lives when circumstances can seem like EnGedi – dark canyon walls that loom all around us with no visible path out.

Psalm 23:2 says the Lord leads us beside still waters. He follows it with Psalm 23:3 promising to restore our souls. How gracious is our Savior to lead us … to let us sit and catch a glimpse – a reflection – of clear blue skies. They shine endlessly bright above the darkness of those walls surrounding us. Is it possible that sitting beside that still water, in the quietness of the moment, there is something we miss that keeps us from having our souls truly restored? Maybe His intent is to lead us past the wonder of the reflection? Maybe He has orchestrated an opportunity to cause us to look up … to desire to see more what’s being reflected than the reflection itself.

Could it be that He is wanting – desiring us – to not settle for just a glimpse? To not settle for taking a break and deciding to camp out in that place of cool rest.? Could He be stirring within us the courage to look up past our surroundings and gaze into the full beauty of Him? To look past where we are and into the sureness of promise found not in a reflection but in the Light of His Word?

… for He will restore our souls.
