The content of this blog today is just a few random thoughts I had the other day while driving home from work and taking in the vibrant Fall colors.

How can death be so beautiful?  I mean, we say that the leaves are changing, and they in fact are, but the reality is that they’re dying.  People flock in from faraway places to see leaves change, die, and fall to the ground.  Interesting.  People (including me) plan entire days of their lives to go see these vibrant colored trees.  It’s crazy really.  But it’s absolutely beautiful!  My friends laugh at me as I get so excited and will randomly exclaim “Wow! Look at that one!” while pointing to a tree as we’re driving.

I find it interesting that we, who generally fear change in our own lives, can so wholeheartedly enjoy the changing seasons.  Perhaps in the core of our being we need change.  Perhaps the very thing that we fear is what we were created to enjoy.  Perhaps we were created to be ever-changing beings, where things are constantly dying in us so that other things can live.  There is no new growth if there is not first change.  Old leaves must
die off or else there will be no room for new ones.  Often times we want
the new-ness, we want the growth.  But will we be willing to embrace
the change that proceeds the growth?  It’s a question I’m
seasonally asking myself.

It seems that God meant for change to be beautiful.  For us not to fear it and
complain through it, but for us to see the beauty in it. Perhaps change really is as beautiful as these red, gold, and orange leaves falling on my windshield.
