Hello family and friends!
It’s been awhile since I last communicated with you. I pray that you all are doing well and are getting geared up for Fall. Things here in Georgia have been busy as I hit the ground running and haven’t quite slowed down yet. But I’m having a blast and really enjoying my job, new friends, and life in general here.
I am living in Gainesville, GA located about 1 hour northeast of Atlanta. North GA is lush with huge trees and mountains & beautiful lakes and rivers.
My roommate and I got moved into a new apartment and we’re in the process of making it home. My roommate’s name is Ashley Musick and has just moved from West Virginia to Gainesville to come on staff with Adventures In Missions and work with the World Race department. There are lots of young people my age around AIM these days which means lots of fun community.
My new job is still evolving here at AIM. I am working alongside Scott Nelson who is the Director of Field Staff. He is also the Kenya base director and was one of my leaders when I first went to Kenya. It’s been great working with Scott and so many other influential people here at AIM. It will be interesting to see how my job evolves and what exactly it looks like. Specifically, I will help potential staff members as they walk through the hiring process. I will also get to assist in training and equipping them and then provide ongoing support for them once they’re on the field. I’m very excited about all the new experiences I will have in this role.
As soon as I arrived, I jumped into an incredibly busy season here at AIM. We have just completed our new staff training where we had an impressive 20 new staff members! It’s exciting to see God raising up leaders to serve in the nations. The ones launching immediately will be heading out to Mexico, England, and Jeffrey’s Bay (South Africa). Then within the next few months, we’ll also have staff launching to Kenya and New Zealand.
The past 2 weeks of training were filled with fun fellowship times and lots of learning moments where the new staff had an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and get equipped for the field. In the training sessions, we focused on prayer, preparing their hearts, inner healing, practical helps on leading a team, adjusting to living overseas, ministry models, worldview, rights/expectations, life lessons from those who have been on the field, discipleship training, role specific seminars, and spiritual warfare. We also had intentional time to pray together & help carry each others burdens, sweet worship, & lots of fun time spent together.
It’s been great for me to reflect on what the Lord has done in and through me in Kenya the past several years as I pour into these new staff.
So that’s in a nutshell what I’ve been up to the past 3 weeks since arrival here in beautiful Georgia. I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying life wherever you are in the world. I think about you and pray for you often. I look forward to hearing from you!
Much love,
Kayla
