Today has been an incredible Sabbath day for me. I was really in need of a day to slow down. My life tends to get a bit crazy if I don’t make the conscious effort to stop and just be. It’s been raining and chilly all day – the perfect forecast to stay inside by the fire in my comfy chair.

Many of you are asking, “so Kayla, what are you doing now?” So let me take a minute to try to fill you in. Things in my world seem to be ever changing regarding my work with AIM. The Lord continues to surprise me as He puts me in situations that feel much too big for me, and then He shows up in incredible ways.  In this new season with many changes, I feel like I’m wearing a coat that’s way too big for me.  I’m definitely being stretched and growing through the new experiences I’m having.

My main role now at AIM involves coordinating training camps for our Real Life teams. This summer we have high school one month teams going to Swaziland, Amazon Jungle, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Peru Highlands, Romania, and Ireland. Our college two month teams will be going to Swaziland, Kenya, India, Nicaragua, and the Amazon Jungle. Then we’ll also be sending out teams of high school students on 2 week trips to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and England.

The teams come here to Gainesville for training camp before their trip launches and we’re able to invest in them and see God do incredible things in them as He prepares them to encounter Him in the nations.  During the camp, we include teaching and training in hopes of preparing them physically, emotionally, and spiritually for the journey they’re embarking on. I absolutely LOVE the training aspect of sending these students out and it’s neat to see how the Lord has lined up my passions and gifts with what I get to do now.  I’m new at this and I’m looking back at “what we’ve always done” and really seeking the Lord, asking Him what our training camps should look like.  It’s a rebuilding process and God is faithful to give us patience, grace, and wisdom with each step.
